One of the first trail improvement projects completed in Sedona this year is already making a difference for local equestrians and trail users alike.

The popular Rector Connector trail skirts the scenic saddle between Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte, offering beautiful views and a convenient connection through one of Sedona’s most visited trail areas. However, a short, steep rock passage along the route has long presented challenges for horses and riders, creating a safety concern on an otherwise enjoyable trail experience.

To address this issue, a new 0.11-mile Rector Connector Equestrian Bypass was constructed, providing horses and riders with a safer alternative while maintaining access to the area’s spectacular scenery. The bypass allows equestrians to avoid the steep rock section and continue enjoying the trail network with greater confidence and comfort.

Though relatively short in length, this new trail represents an important investment in user safety and sustainable trail access. By creating a route specifically designed for equestrian use, the project helps reduce potential conflicts, improves the riding experience, and supports the diverse ways people enjoy Sedona’s trail system.

The Rector Connector Equestrian Bypass is a great example of how thoughtful trail improvements can make our trails safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for everyone — made possible by donors like you!
