SEDONA, AZ (June 20, 2025) – The Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition (VVCC) successfully raised $13,610 in support of the expanded Turkey Creek trail system, a landmark project now underway near the Village of Oak Creek. All funds raised were donated to the Sedona Red Rock Trail Fund, the official partner of the USFS Red Rock Ranger District.

The Turkey Creek trail system represents the most ambitious trail project in the Sedona area since the Cathedral Rock Trail renovation. Once complete, it will include:
• 21.2 miles of newly constructed trail
• 1.72 miles of USFS trail reroutes
• 10.38 miles of adopted social trails
• 10.42 miles of closed and naturalized social trails
• Two new trailheads, including one with 35 vehicle spaces and an equestrian lot

All new trail construction will be done by hand, preserving the rugged, narrow tread that defines the Sedona trail experience. Importantly, all trails will be closed to motorized use, prioritizing sustainability of recreation access for hikers, bikers, and equestrians.

“This project is about more than just mileage—it’s a smart, sustainable redesign of how people experience this landscape,” said Tracy Randall, VVCC president. “Turkey Creek will not only relieve pressure on overused trails in Sedona, but provides networked access from the Village and neighborhoods.”

The VVCC’s campaign blended member generosity, creative outreach, and grassroots organizing:
• A $5,000 matching gift by two members kickstarted the effort;
• A raffle of a RockShox Ultimate Fork brought in 309 ticket sales from donors across 17 states, raising $3,295;
• A total of 97 donors participated, including a significant percentage of VVCC members;
• A coordinated social media campaign reached over 12,000 unique users and was reshared more than 70 times.

The funds will support Turkey Creek’s construction, trailhead improvements, ecological restoration efforts, and ongoing maintenance. The first new trail in the system, Del Sol, was completed in April. Work will resume this fall with anticipated completion in 2028.

“VVCC continues to be an incredible partner in this work,” said Dick Williams, president of the Sedona Red Rock Trail Fund. “Their ability to rally grassroots support and generate real financial momentum is invaluable. We’re deeply grateful for their commitment to collaborative stewardship of these public lands.”
