Red Rockers Meetup group raises $13,095 for Sedona’s Red Rock trails

The Sedona Red Rockers Meetup group took their annual fund drive for the Sedona Red Rock Trail Fund (SRRTF) to new heights this spring. At a celebratory summer social hosted by member Brenda Graham on May 17th, it was revealed that the grand total for the six-week drive was $13,095, topping their spring 2023 total of $3,580 by 360%. Two members of the group incentivized donations with match funds.

At the celebration event, the group’s generous commitment to trail stewardship was recognized by USFS Acting District Ranger Alex Schlueter and SRRTF President Kevin Adams. While most of the donations were from members in the Verde Valley, some came in from other states, including Minnesota, Vermont and California.

The Sedona Red Rockers Meetup Group is a public organization with approximately 2,800 members who share an interest in enjoying outdoor recreation in Red Rock Country. Local residency is not required and many members live elsewhere but enjoy participating in the activities when visiting the area. The group is led by Mike Coltrane and is open to anyone through the online website meetup.com.

In his words of appreciation, SRRTF President Adams said, “The cost of maintaining the 300+ miles of non-motorized trails in the Sedona and VOC area is fast approaching $1 million every year. Federal funding covers less than 10% of the expense – your generosity is what makes this connection to the Red Rocks possible.”

2024 Projects Completed

A number of the special trail renovation projects supported with funding from the SRRTF for fiscal year 2024 (Oct-Sept) have been successfully completed, including Soldiers Pass Trail, Schnebly Hill Trail phase one, and the fifth and final phase Cathedral Rock Trail.
